The “no tax on Social Security” is not exactly that. OBBB added a provision for taxpayers 65 years and older to get an additional $6000 standard deduction (married filing joint gets $12,000). This amount is reduced at certain income levels, 150k for married and $75k for others.

The OBBB has a provision for “No Tax on Tips”. This is a huge benefit for taxpayers who serve others. This is available for employees as well as self-employed taxpayers
If you serve others and receive tips as a normal part of your compensation, be sure to alert your tax professional about your tip income.

One provision in the One Big Beautiful Bill (OB3) is “no tax on overtime”. If you are an employee who gets paid overtime, your tax professional will need your last paystub for the year to compute the correct tax free amount.

There was no provision in the OBBB to exclude SS benefits from taxation. There is a chance this could be included in a future bill.
For now, relief for seniors comes in an additional $6000/person standard deduction. This benefit begins to phase out when income exceeds $75k single/$150k married.

The BBB is headed to the President’s desk for signature.

Here are a few highlights for individual taxpayers:
1) Trump’s tax cuts from 2018 made permanent
2) no tax on tips and overtime (with limits)
3) additional $6000 deduction for seniors
4) SALT cap increased to $40,000 from $10,000
5) child tax credit increased to $2200 from $2000
6) interest deductible on autos assembled in the USA
7) Trump account of $1000 for children born 2025-2028

Highlights for business taxpayers:
1) 179 expensing increased to $2.5M
2) bonus depreciation increased back to 100%
