When we asked Tymeisha what she planned to do with her Grand Prize winnings of thousands of dollars, the busy mom of 2 didn’t hesitate to answer. “I’m a fairly new homeowner, so I could probably get some work done around the house,” she tells us.

Getting your taxes done usually means dealing with a number of documents, either online or on paper. But how long should you keep these tax docs after you’ve filed?

Generally, it’s a good idea to keep your tax return and any income statements related to it for at least 7 years. In the event you need to file an amended return due to a missed credit or deduction, you’ll have the documents you need to do that.
