Sometimes the universe has other lessons to teach you on your morning run!
This weekend, I was settling into my usual running rhythm with a podcast going ("The Knowledge Project) when something felt off. An unfamiliar noise. A rustling.
A rustling sound that didn't quite fit. Was it fireworks? An animal? or another runner? Reflexively, I stopped the podcast to gain my bearing.
Heart pounding. I catch a glimpse of something out of the corner of my eye. I took a step back. The rustling got louder...
Then it happened. Loud snap then crash... I took another step back as the large top of not so small tree broke free and came crashing down across the trail where I was running. Exactly where I would have been!
It was at that moment I said a prayer of thanks for safety and took inventory of the lessons learned:
Trust your instincts. That little voice telling you something isn't right? Listen to it. Our subconscious often picks up on details our conscious mind misses.
Quick decisions matter. In business and life, the ability to assess a situation rapidly and act can be the difference between success and disaster.
Don't let obstacles take you off your path. After documenting this close call, the run didn't stop. Challenges are temporary โ your goals don't have to be.
Sometimes the best leadership lessons come from the most unexpected moments. What's the last time your instincts saved you from a mistake?
