North Carolina’s income tax rate is dropping again! 🍂 For 2026 it’s a flat 3.99%, and a new law is scheduled to lower it to 3.49% for 2027.

The fourth quarter estimated tax payment for 2026 is due January 15, 2027, and the IRS generally expects estimated payments if you expect to owe $1,000 or more when you file. Looking at your numbers now leaves time to plan, rather than scramble in January.

Tax trivia Thursday! Before 1943, most American workers paid their income tax in one annual lump sum. Then the Current Tax Payment Act introduced pay-as-you-go withholding, so employers began taking tax out of each paycheck starting July 1, 1943. Every pay stub you have ever seen traces back to that change.

Pay stubs have a longer history than most of us realized. 😄 Questions about your own withholding? We are happy to help.

Business owners who pay contractors: the 1099 threshold has changed. The reporting threshold for Form 1099-NEC and most Form 1099-MISC payments is now $2,000, up from $600, for payments made in 2026. Payments made in 2025 still follow the $600 rule, and income below the threshold is still taxable to the person who earned it.

Meet Sansa! This adorable Hound mix puppy is a small girl (under 1 year old, and listed at 25 lbs or less) with a white and cream coat accented with gray, blue, and silver. She’s vaccinated and looking for her forever home in Franklin, NC.
