Good morning! Here is an update on the filing for unemployment in the state of Indiana:
To: INCPAS Members
Quick update: www.in.gov/dwd/19.htm
I am providing my notes from several sources-DWD's webinars, press conferences, media interviews and staff conversations in order to provide information to you as quickly as possible.
DWD announced they have the call-in application option available for Hoosiers who do not have access to a computer. The number is their regular 800 number: 1-800-891-6499 Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:00pm When given the menu options, the selection should be "3". The applicant should have all their information ready to be reported. DWD has warned this will be a slow and lengthy call.
In general, DWD has had complaints about wait times and disconnects on their phone line. Commissioner Payne reported at Governor Holcomb's daily press conference that they are working with their IT department to address the disconnect issue. He also mentioned that they are updating their FAQs on their website to include the most often asked questions from their call centers.
For the week ending March 27, DWD received 139,174 new unemployment applications. That number was 133,639 for the week ending April 4th.
DWD has issued 175,195 payments since April 1st. These are regular unemployment payments only. They expect the $600/week payments to begin the week of April 20th. Payments will be retroactive to March 29th.
No date has been identified as to when DWD will be able to accept applications from self-employed, independent contractors or others who are not normally eligible for state unemployment, but qualify for the federal funds. ($600/week) The department has had to build a new system to be able to process these claims. Unfortunately, if someone in this category applies now using the existing system, they will receive a denial every time they file until the new system is up and running. DWD is working to have the new system recognize the earlier application. They are working with other departments to access income history for these applicants (unemployed, independent contractors and others not normally eligible for state unemployment) so it can be imported for the individual, hoping they will not have to submit an entirely new application. These payments will also be retroactive to March 29th.
Please keep me posted on issues you are running into or questions you have.
