☕ The Coffee Deduction Is Gone — Here’s What That Means

This is one of those tax law changes that catches many businesses by surprise.

For years, providing coffee, snacks, and refreshments in the workplace was simply part of doing business — and at least partially deductible.

Beginning in 2026, that changes.

Here are 3 important things employers should know:

✔️ The deduction disappears.
What was previously 50% deductible through 2025 becomes 0% deductible in 2026 for most employer-provided break-room food and beverages.

✔️ Employees still receive the benefit tax-free.
These items generally remain classified as “de minimis fringe benefits,” meaning employees are not taxed — but employers lose the deduction entirely.

✔️ Planning now matters.
Businesses should begin identifying and tracking these expenses now to understand the after-tax impact going forward. Expenses that were once partially deductible will soon become fully nondeductible.

It may seem like a small change, but for many businesses, these costs add up quickly.

As always, proactive tax planning helps avoid surprises.

The gift tax is one of the most misunderstood provisions in the tax code. Here is what you need to know.

Presenting a gift to a grandchild does not normally have us thinking about the taxes. However, if not careful, the over-generous gift giver could end up with a surprise tax bill and a note from the IRS.

Even if you think your taxes are carefully completed, your business can get hit with unexpected tax bills, denied deductions, and IRS penalties. Tossing tax documents too soon makes it harder to challenge these risks.

Without records to substantiate your claimed income, expenses, or credits, you risk losing those deductions and credits during an audit, which can lead to owing back taxes plus interest and penalties.

Our team can help you get organized, set up a recordkeeping system, and stay ready for tax season and beyond. Let’s talk before you start cleaning out your files.
