🚨 3 Things the IRS Is Watching HARD This Tax Season 👀

Let’s be clear — the IRS is not playing in 2026.

1️⃣ Self-Employment Income With No Proof
If you report business income but can’t show:
✔ Bank statements
✔ Invoices
✔ A profit & loss statement

…that’s an automatic 🚩.
No proof = income not verified = delay, audit, or adjustment.

2️⃣ Dependents That Switch Every Year
The IRS tracks dependents by SSN.
If a child is claimed by different people year-to-year, expect a review.

📌 Have your paperwork ready:
• Custody agreements
• School records
• Medical records

“Prove it” letters are going out heavy this season.

3️⃣ Large Write-Offs With No Receipts or Mileage Log
Yes, business owners get deductions — but only if they’re documented.

No receipts.
No mileage log.
No write-off.

Simple as that.

⚠️ Claiming things you can’t prove is one of the fastest ways to get flagged.

📣 File clean. File honest. File with someone who knows the rules.

🚨 CHILD TAX CREDIT (CTC) STOP ASSUMING IT MEANS A BIG REFUND 🚨

Having kids does NOT automatically mean thousands back. Let’s clear it up ⬇️

✅ WHEN CTC HELPS

✔️ Child is under 17
✔️ Child has a valid SSN
✔️ Child meets IRS dependent rules
✔️ Child lived with you more than half the year
✔️ Income is under:
• $200K (Single / HOH)
• $400K (Married Filing Jointly)

CTC mainly reduces taxes you owe.

❌ WHEN CTC DOES NOT INCREASE A REFUND

❌ If you already owe $0, the regular CTC doesn’t create extra money
❌ If income is too high, the credit phases out
❌ If the child does not meet IRS rules, the credit is removed

💡 WHY REFUNDS DIFFER

CTC has two parts:
• Non-refundable → lowers taxes
• Refundable portion → limited and tied to earned income

Same kids. Same year. Different refunds.

⚠️ REALITY CHECK
CTC is a tax credit, not a bonus check.
Income, withholding, and filing status matter.

Save this. Share this. Facts over feelings.

‼️ Pre-Ack Advance Reminders (Read This Twice)‼️

1. It is NOT a refund
• It’s a short-term advance/loan based on an expected refund.
• The IRS has not accepted the return yet.

2. IRS acceptance is NOT guaranteed
• Rejections, identity checks, or system delays can kill the advance.
• If it doesn’t ACK → no refund!

3. Not all returns qualify
Common disqualifiers:
• Certain credits (EITC/CTC restrictions depending on bank)
• Injured spouse
• Amended returns
• Prior-year debt risks
• First-time filers
• Missing prior filing history

4. Bank approval > Tax software
• The tax bank makes the final call, not you.
• Approval rules can change.

5. Amounts are tiered based on:
• Expected refund size
• Filing history
• Risk score
• Just because someone got $2K last year doesn’t mean they will this year.

6. Fees are usually deducted later
• Clients often forget this part.
• Advance + prep fees + bank fees = smaller refund later.
• Set expectations early or prepare for attitude later.

7. Timing can vary
• Some are same day.
• Some are next business day.
• Weekends and holidays don’t count.

8. Client still owes the advance if refund is offset
• If the IRS takes the refund for:
• Child support
• Student loans
• Back taxes
👉🏽 the bank can still collect.

9. Due diligence still applies
• An advance does not excuse sloppy work.
• 8867 rules still stand.
• Fast money ≠ fast filing.

10. Overpromising = compliance nightmare

Never say:
• “You’re guaranteed”
• “You’ll get it today”
• “Everybody qualifies”

Say:
• “If approved by the bank”
• “After bank approval”
• “Based on eligibility”

11. Pre-ack ≠ Post-ack
• Make sure clients know the difference.
• Many think they’re the same. They’re not.

12. Document EVERYTHING
• Disclosures
• Client acknowledgments
• Advance explanations
(Protect yourself first. Always.)

💡 Pro Tip (Real Talk)

Pre-ack advances are a marketing tool, not a miracle.

Use them to attract clients but use your education and set expectations to keep the peace!

🔥 TAX GIRLIES & TAX BOYS COME HERE REAL QUICK!

Y’all love checking IRS transcripts but don’t know WHAT you looking at… so let me break down the REAL TAX GAME CODES the way your tax pro SHOULD be explaining them. 🗣️💰

💸 826 — THEY SNATCHED YOUR REFUND
The IRS used your refund to pay a debt. Child support, student loans, state taxes… yep, that’s where your money went.

💰 846 — THE MONEY CODE
Refund issued. Green light. Bag released. The date next to it is when your money LEFT the IRS.

⏸️ 570 — THEY PUT A HOLD ON YOUR MONEY
Something triggered a review. No release. No movement. It’s sitting until they finish checking whatever flagged.

🧊 810 — FREEZE ALERT
Identity, exam, or security issues. Your refund is BLOCKED until you clear it. Nothing moves.

🔥 811 — FREEZE LIFTED
They unfroze your refund. Now we wait for that lovely 846 to pop up.

📝 971 — THEY SENT YOU A LETTER
Account activity logged. Could be ID verify, missing info, corrections… watch your mailbox.

📬 977 — AMENDED RETURN POSTED
Your 1040X is officially in the system. Amended return accepted and processing.

😰 424 — EXAM/AUDIT REVIEW
Your return got pulled for extra eyes. Doesn’t always mean full audit, but something needed a closer look.

😮‍💨 425 — EXAM REVIEW MOVED
Activity or movement in the exam process. Depends what happened before this code context matters.

📚 768 — EARNED INCOME CREDIT
This is where your EIC lives. Parents, y’all look for THIS when checking how much credit posted.

🏆 177 — PENALTY REDUCTION
The IRS cut down your estimated tax penalty. Any time they remove a penalty… that’s a WIN.

⚠️ 091 — BUSINESS CLASSIFICATION CHANGE
They switched how your account or business is categorized. If you see this and you run a hustle? Yeah… get a tax pro IMMEDIATELY.

🚨 PARENTS, READ THIS BEFORE YOU FILE

Y’all are leaving MONEY on the table because you don’t understand how the Child Tax Credit actually boosts your refund. Let me show you in the simplest way possible.

Example: Single parent, 2 kids

Made $36,000
Had $3,150 taken out in taxes

Before credits, the IRS says they owe $2,207. Cool. Now here’s where the magic happens.

The Child Tax Credit hits

It’s $2,200 per child.
Two kids = $4,400 in credits.

That $4,400 wipes out the $2,207 they would’ve owed. So now their tax bill becomes $0.

So how does that raise the refund

Because if you don’t owe anything, everything you already paid in comes BACK to you. In this example the parent gets the full $3,150 back as their refund.

If that credit wasn’t applied their refund would’ve been way smaller because part of that money would’ve gone to paying taxes.

The truth

The Child Tax Credit boosts your refund by clearing your tax bill first so you get more of your money back.

🚨 PSA: STOP LETTING SOCIAL MEDIA LIE TO YOU ABOUT YOUR REFUND 🚨

Y’all gotta stop believing these cute little graphics talking about:

1 kid = $5,000
2 kids = $8,000

Be for REAL. It does NOT work like that.

Nobody and I mean NOBODY can tell you your refund without seeing your actual numbers. Not Facebook. Not TikTok. Not your cousin. Not a meme.

Refunds are NOT flat rates… there’s a whole formula behind it. Your bag depends on:

✔ Your income
✔ How much tax you paid in
✔ Your filing status
✔ What credits you REALLY qualify for

Every client is different.
Every household is different.
Every refund is different.
So stop letting the internet gas you up with fake expectations.

If you want the real numbers, get with somebody who knows the law and isn’t scared to explain it to you. Period.🌸✅

TAX FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR THE 2026 TAX SEASON

1. Your 2026 tax return is based solely on your 2025 income. Everything you earned from January December 2025 is what the IRS will look at.

2. Childcare expenses can help your tax return. Daycare, after-school care, summer camps, and babysitters (with proof) may qualify.

3. All income counts, even side hustles.
Hair, lashes, DoorDash, Instacart, selling clothes, babysitting, keep track of everything.

4. Head of Household isn’t automatic.
You must pay most of the household expenses, and your child must live with you most of the year.

5. If you had marketplace insurance, you must have Form 1095-A.
Missing this form is one of the biggest causes of delayed refunds.

6. You CAN NOT file your return with your last paycheck. You will need your official W-2s or 1099s before filing.

7. Filing early helps protect your return.
It lowers the chance of delays and reduces the risk of someone else filing under you or your child’s name.

8. Only one parent can claim the child.
If someone else claims your child before you, your refund may be delayed for weeks.

9. It’s easier to save everything in one place. Create a “2025 Taxes” folder in your phone for screenshots, forms, childcare receipts, and statements.

10. Single moms usually qualify for multiple credits. This may include:
• Child Tax Credit
• Earned Income Credit
• Child & Dependent Care Credit
• Education credits (if you’re in school)

11. Certain assistance or benefit letters matter. Save EBT letters, disability documents, rental assistance letters, or marketplace statements.

12. Your child must have lived with you more than half the year. This rule affects most major credits for single moms.

13. IRS letters aren’t always bad, but they do require action. The sooner you respond, the smoother your refund process.

14. Yes you can file even if you didn’t work the entire year. Your situation may still qualify you for certain credits or benefits.

15. Refund loans reduce your refund.
If possible, wait for the IRS, they usually deposit quickly once accepted.
