Ladies and gentlemen, it is only five days until Brice and I hit the stage at the Florence Area Literacy Council Lip Sync Battle!
Join us on June 4 at 6:00 p.m. at the SIMT Building for a fun evening supporting a cause that truly matters. There is still time to purchase tickets and/or make a donation.
Brice has been practicing hard, as you can see in the video! **We do not own the rights to the music ** and this is not the song we will be performing at the Lip Sync Battle, but I thought you might enjoy a little glimpse into our rehearsals.

On a more serious note, the Florence Area Literacy Council desperately needs our support. Like many nonprofit organizations, it has been a challenging year for fundraising. This organization holds a very special place in my heart, and it depends heavily on community contributions as grant funding from larger organizations and government entities continues to decline.
Illiteracy remains a significant issue in our community. It is often a generational challenge that continues to be passed down from one generation to the next. If we do not work together to address it, the cycle will continue.

We unexpectedly need a few additional performers for the Florence Area Literacy Council Lip Sync Battle on June 4th.

Several participants have had unexpected tragedies and had to pull out at the last minute, and while the event will still be a fun night, it would be even better—and raise more funds for the Literacy Council—with a couple more performers joining in.

This is a lighthearted, high-energy event where you simply lip sync (no real singing required) and help raise money for adult literacy programs right here in Florence County. It’s all about fun, community, and supporting an important cause.

June 4th is coming up fast. Join Brice and me and the members of CAS at the Florence Area Literacy Council’s Lip Sync Battle!

This will be Brice’s first appearance on stage, we are excited to see what he can do.

Illiteracy in Florence County is what I would consider a silent killer. It kills careers, because you cannot build a career if you cannot read. It hurts education, because when there is not a literate parent or grandparent at home, those skills cannot easily be passed down to the next generation.

Too often, literacy gets pushed aside for causes that may seem cuter or more fun. But the truth is this: what could you truly do in life if you could not read?

Reading sounds simple to many of us, but for so many adults in our community, it is not.

Please join me in the fight against illiteracy in Florence County. Help us bring awareness to such a crippling issue. If you cannot join us on June 4th, you can still make a difference by sending a donation.

Three weeks and counting until the Florence Area Literacy Council annual Lip Sync Battle!

Brice didn’t know it back in May of 2023, but he was setting himself up for this year’s battle. 😄

The Florence Area Literacy Council needs your help, guys. They are always in need of funding because they do not receive the large grants that some bigger organizations do. They survive and thrive through donations from people like you.

It is hard to believe that illiteracy still exists anywhere, especially in our little community, and because it is often hidden, it can easily be ignored. But the truth is that so many adults struggle with reading, writing, and comprehension — and those adults have children and grandchildren. If we do not help stop the cycle from passing from generation to generation, then we have not done our part.

The Florence Area Literacy Council’s Lip Sync is near and dear to my heart and has been for years. From a spectator, to assisting in the back, to performing, it has been my pleasure to be a part of such a humble organization. Lip Sync is coming up on June 4 and is The Florence Area Literacy’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Those attending will be provided an excellent meal, fabulous entertainment, participate in silent auctions and, of course, there is a bar.

Brice and I will be hitting the stage together for the first time ever!! It may be worth coming just to see how that whole situation goes. I am already questioning that leather pants may have been a terrible strategic decision. But you won’t know unless you come…….

Bookkeeper/Staff Accountant

We are looking to add a new bookkeeper for monthly clients. This is a full time position for a high volume office. Experience with Quickbooks and accounting is necessary. Must have great communication skills and must be teamwork oriented. Must be able to multi task and be cross trained for other tasks. Experience with Word, Excel and Adobe is a plus.

Hours are ( 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday through Thursday and 8:30am- 12:00pm on Friday, open until 5:00pm on Fridays during Tax Season). Competitive pay.

We’ll be hitting the stage together for the first time on June 4th at one of the biggest fundraising events of the year for The Florence Area Literacy Council and let’s just say, this is going to be one you don’t want to miss!

So why did CAS choose to represent this nonprofit and support other similar small nonprofits ?

Working with organizations across the state, I’ve noticed something important: the smaller the nonprofit, the fewer resources they tend to have. Less federal and state funding. Fewer grants. Less advertising. But what they do have is strong, meaningful programs that truly change lives.

Those are the organizations we believe in.

The Florence Area Literacy Council help adults learn to read—people who, at some point, were overlooked or left behind by the system. And that matters more than most people realize.

Because when a child grows up in a home where an adult struggles to read, it impacts everything—from homework to confidence to future opportunities.

When we break that cycle, we don’t just help one person—we change generations.

So we’re stepping on that stage not just to have fun (although we definitely will 😄), but to support a cause that’s making a real difference right here in our community.
