Inflation moved higher in May, with energy costs playing a major role in the increase.💡

Consumer prices rose 4.2% from a year earlier, up from 3.8% in April. On a monthly basis, prices increased 0.5%.

Gas prices were a key driver. Higher energy costs accounted for more than 60% of the monthly increase, while gasoline prices were up sharply from a year earlier.

The impact extends beyond the pump. Higher fuel and energy costs can affect transportation, shipping, airfares, electricity, business expenses, and household budgets.

Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, rose at a more modest pace. That suggests some price pressures remain concentrated in energy-related categories, though consumers and businesses are still feeling the strain.

For households, inflation can affect everyday spending decisions. For businesses, higher costs may influence pricing, hiring, margins, and customer behavior.

Did you miss it? My newest blog is out now!💡

If you grew up in the 90s like me, you might remember the movie Holes starring Shia LaBeouf. If you were also a book nerd like me, you knew it first as the award-winning novel by Louis Sachar.

The story follows Stanley Yelnats, a boy wrongly sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention camp where boys spend their days digging holes for “character building.”

Throughout the movie, there are flashbacks to history. We see numerous stories, but one is about the “Yelnats Curse.” This multi-generational cycle of financial ruin was triggered by a single broken promise.

This story is easily relatable if we let it be... Read more here:

Artificial intelligence is here to stay. How far it will go is still up for debate. But at its core, AI is just a tool. And like any tool, it can be incredibly effective when used correctly—and surprisingly harmful when it’s not.💡

In my newest blog, I'll be sharing a couple stories where it has both steered me wrong and my clients. 🧠 https://theeverydayadvisor.com/role-of-ai-in-finances/

Retail sales increased by 1.7% in March, reflecting a pickup in consumer spending compared to the previous month. 💡

A significant portion of that increase was tied to higher fuel costs, with gas station sales rising notably during the period.

When excluding fuel, overall retail growth was more modest, which shows that while spending increased, much of it was driven by higher prices rather than a broad-based surge in purchasing activity.

✍️Other areas of retail saw more measured gains, including department stores, furniture, and online shopping, while restaurant spending remained relatively steady.
