FLORIDA ELIMINATES SALES TAX ON COMMERCIAL LEASES

Starting October 1, 2025, Florida will no longer charge sales tax on commercial rent, thanks to a new law passed in 2025 (HB 7031). This repeal ends the long-standing “business rent tax,” which had applied to most commercial lease payments across the state.

Florida was the only state to impose a statewide sales tax on commercial leases — a burden often criticized by business owners. The change will reduce costs for tenants and simplify lease agreements moving forward.
