IRS sends out incorrect collection letters to disaster areas - including Arkansas!

"Short answer: Disaster area taxpayers can ignore the CP14 collection notice," says Collins. "The payment due date on the collection notice is wrong. The correct payment due date is stated on the disaster declaration."

"The IRS is working hard to improve our operations as part of our new Strategic Operating Plan," said IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel in a statement. "We know our initial mailing caused confusion for taxpayers and tax professionals, and we worked quickly to send a follow-up reminder to help reassure people. This mailing reflects how we're trying to be more taxpayer-focused given the additional resources that we've been given under the Inflation Reduction Act."

ERC Tax Scam added to IRS’s “Dirty Dozen” tax scams!!

The IRS is warning businesses to beware of scams promoting abuse of the Employee Retention Credit as the IRS holds off on processing many of the claims that have been flooding into it offices. Earlier this year, the IRS put ERC scams at the top of its annual list of the Dirty Dozen tax scams.

Beware of the aggressive marketing of the Employee Retention Credit as it continues to prey on innocent businesses and others – the IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel is stressing this in recent statements. Aggressive promoters present wildly misleading claims about the credit and those providing the service are pocketing handsome fees while leaving those claiming the credit at risk of having the claims denied or facing scenarios where they need to repay the credit along with penalties and interest.

This has caused those with legitimate claims to come under suspicion. Sikich hosted a program around the ERC credit and discovered that 96% of the attendees in their program that had already applied and received the ERC credit were now targets of a nationwide IRS crackdown.
