Reports of scam phone calls that sound like they’re coming from the IRS are increasing. Some scammers are even using AI to make these calls seem more legitimate. Considering this we want to share some tips on how to better protect yourself.

• The IRS does not initiate contact by phone, text, email, or social media.
• They will never demand immediate payment.
• They will never ask for gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or prepaid cards.
• Urgent threats of arrest, penalties, or account suspension are major red flags.

If you receive unsolicited contact via call, text, email or social media claiming to be from the IRS, do not respond or engage, and do not provide any personal or financial information. The IRS advises taxpayers to avoid responding to unsolicited communications and remain cautious. If you’re unsure about the legitimacy of something claiming to be from the IRS, reach out directly to the IRS, your tax professional, or your financial office.
