Long term care planning (LTC) can be emotionally, psychologically and financially draining. The issue is one of morbidity versus mortality- taxpayers have started understanding the importance of life insurance to protect their families against premature death during their peak earning years but have not necessarily shifted gears to understand the importance of also protecting their retirement nest eggs against a highly likely LTC event. This is not something you start planning for when you are in your sixties or seventies but in your forties and fifties before you start approaching your retirement years. Sometimes it involves generational planning with children pooling in to cover uninsured parents. Different situations will require different strategies to ensure a stable and secure aging with diginity. Saturday’s Taste of Peace event celebrating the 40th anniversary of PeaceWorks was a showcase of community success! Powerful stories that have empowered women to be the change they want to see. It was great to support their ongoing work as a sponsor and heartening to witness the participation of all attendees in the live/ silent auctions. So many local folks and businesses contributed generously to raise funds and Sabrina Fritts created a warm vibe with her personal touches and story through the evening. Thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors & guests who made this such a special experience!

We take our mobility and abilities for granted so let’s be aware of accessibility issues for those who need a bit more consideration from the community- whether it’s ensuring you are not blocking parking slots for the disabled, or whether it’s creating ramps to make sidewalks, restaurants /shop entrances and public bathrooms easier to navigate and access, we can all help. Today, on Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we’re proud to officially launch our new DMV Curbside Service at our Golden Motor Vehicle office.

We’ve heard concerns from community members about the challenges of accessing our Golden office for people with disabilities. We hear you and we understand that simply getting into the building can add stress to what should be a straightforward visit. That’s why we created this service!

Our new curbside option helps reduce barriers for customers applying for or renewing disability placards and plates by allowing them to stay in their vehicle while receiving assistance. We come to you!

You can schedule a curbside appointment online, by phone, or by chat. When booking online, select “Persons with disabilities curbside” to choose a date and time that works best for you.

When you arrive for your appointment, park in one of the designated curbside spaces and call the number on the sign. A staff member will come out to assist you.

Accessibility matters, and we’re committed to continuing to improve how Jeffco residents access our services.
