A $500 ACA refund may be headed your way.

The Treasury Department has started sending one-time $500 refunds to people who paid full price for 2026 coverage through HealthCare.gov.

On taxes, the most likely answer is that it isn’t income. It’s a refund of premiums you already paid.

If you’re self-employed, though, it will likely lower your 2026 health insurance deduction by $500.

When yours arrives, keep the letter that comes with it with your tax records. Full details are on our blog, linked in the comments.

September 15 is one of those dates that tends to slip by quietly.

If your business filed an extension, the return comes due. If you make estimated tax payments, the next one arrives the same day.

Plenty of owners have both on their plate. Others have neither. It takes about a minute to sort out which one you are.

A quick check now saves a longer conversation later.
