🧠 Do you know the term: “Present Bias”?

You know that client who really wants to save for retirement...
..but also really wants that new kitchen right now?

That’s not lack of discipline.

That’s present bias - our brain’s natural tendency to overvalue immediate rewards and undervalue long-term benefits.

In other words:
“I know Future Me will thank me for maxing out my 401(k)...
..but Current Me needs the fancy espresso machine.”

💬 This is where traditional advice often falls short.

Telling someone to “just think long-term” doesn’t work when their brain is wired to feel more connected to their short-term desires.

As Fractional Chief Behavioral Officers (CBO), this is exactly where we help advisors recognize when present bias is hijacking the plan - and give them language, tools, and strategies to bridge that gap.

That's exactly what my latest conversation with Dr. Daniel Crosby explores.
As a psychologist and behavioral finance expert, Daniel brings a fascinating perspective on why financial success alone doesn't create life satisfaction - and how advisors can bridge that gap.
