Taxpayers may be able to claim a deduction for qualified tips paid to them in 2025 that are included on Form W-2, Form 1099-NEC, Form 1099-MISC, Form 1099-K, or reported directly by them on Form 4137.

“Qualified tips” are voluntary cash or charged tips received from customers or through tip sharing. The maximum annual deduction is $25,000

The deduction phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $150,000 ($300,000 for joint filers)

SO MANY CHANGES.....If your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) is less than $150,000, the American Rescue Plan enacted on March 11, 2021, excludes from income up to $10,200 of unemployment compensation paid in 2020, which means you don’t have to pay tax on unemployment compensation of up to $10,200. If you are married, each spouse receiving unemployment compensation doesn’t have to pay tax on unemployment compensation of up to $10,200. Amounts over $10,200 for each individual are still taxable. If your modified AGI is $150,000 or more, you can’t exclude any unemployment compensation.

The CARES Act allows an above-the-line deduction, allowing a write-off of up to $300 in cash donations to a qualified charity. Filers can claim it even if they take the 2020 standard deduction of $12,400 for singles or $24,800 for married couples.
