Dear Clients and Friends:
Welcome to the 2022 Income Tax Filing Season. As some of you may know, Mr Tax suffered a personal setback last June they had to amputate his lower right leg. However, they did not cut away his ability to do taxes, so he's still here to work on your returns. We appreciate the patience of any clients affected by my absence last summer and fall and apologize for any inconvenience. The office will be ably handled by the veteran Megan Schaff Edwards, so you're in good hands. You can contact her for appointments, drop off's, pick up's and any other questions you have at 251-986-8411 or send her a message through fb messenger.
There was some significant tax changes to be aware of. The main change is the Child Tax Credit, which has been increased, and was paid out monthly to some people. The IRS is sending Letter 6149 to applicable taxpayers detailing how much advanced payment to claim on your return. There was also a 3rd stimulus check, called an Economic Impact Payment, which is being detailed on Letter 6475. Getting these two documents right is crucial to getting a timely refund. The IRS is already warning of potentially delayed refunds due to being understaffed, so we want to get everything right the first time. Please bring these documents with your other information to our office. Another thing many taxpayers in this area can claim for 2021 is Hurricane Sally related repair expenses. If you were waiting for insurance to settle, you can claim them in the year you paid them, which for many was 2021. Please provide details as to the original cost, expense to repair, and any insurance claim you received.
We greatly appreciate your business over these many years and hope to serve you for a long time to come!
