The owners who get found by the right clients consistently have done one thing the rest haven't. They picked a position. They got specific about who they help, what they solve, and what makes them different. They stopped trying to be the safe choice for everybody.

You don't get less business by being specific. You get more of the right business.

The owners I've watched close consistently over 30 years aren't the most persuasive.

They're the ones who qualify hardest, earliest. They figure out in the first ten minutes whether this is a real buyer, and they spend their best hours accordingly.

After 30 years, I can tell you the more expensive problem is the wrong ones.

The customer who haggles every invoice. The one who treats your time like it's free. The one who says yes to the proposal then renegotiates after the work starts. The one who pays 60 days late every time and acts surprised when you bring it up.
