Q4 2019 is coming to a close are you ready for 2020!!! This is a time for making lists.Time to evaluate your companies revenue, and expenses. Identify your top 10 clients or products based on (Revenue-Expenses). Structure marketing to attract more of these clients and sell more of these products. Identify the clients and products that are yielding the least margin. Those products that are not yielding should be considered for either raising the price of service to the customer or raise the price of product. By being diligent you will be able to recoup your profit.

1st Quarter 2019 is coming to a close!!! I can't believe it. Thought this would be a good time to discuss the power of creating a budget. The budget may look like a large investment in time, but it can become an incredible road map for success. The budget is the bedrock of every business. Building a budget is like building a good foundation to a building, without it you risk failure to the structure when challenges rock it.

Being a CEO requires one to have a bird’s eye view of your business so that you may see what is currently happening and prepare for what you want to happen. Once the budget is built, budget to actual reports can be generated on a monthly basis, this data can bring incredible clarity to how your business is running and allow you as the CEO to provide better management substantiated with real data. This type of administration yields an environment of constant information. This constant information empowers the CEO to inform your board, your investors, and your employees of real success and real challenges in your organization before they may even know it. This type of management engenders respect and trust in your ideas and plans.

The age old question of chicken or the egg?

Setup your bookkeeping before you start your business or setup your bookkeeping once you have a business?

When I started my bookkeeping business 20 years ago I gotta tell you I started from scratch and it was tough. I spent alot of time talking to the city about licensing, and the county about what it takes to get a fictitious business license and why do I need this again? I spoke to business attorneys and CPAs about the correct entity to establish. By the way I had to find clients that were going to help me pay for all of these licenses, and entity consulting.

Building a strong business is like building a house. You wouldn't go to Home Depot and by wood and nails and just start building it, or would you.... Well you could but the city is going to come by and say where are your permits, where are your plans, where are you certifications, where is your insurance bond. Well when we start a business we don't have these inspectors that is why an entrepreneur owes it to themselves to take some time to hire a bookkeeper/business advisor to assist them in setting up a solid bookkeeping system. The process alone will help them to vision how the business will generate income, and the ways that they might want to track expenses.

Remember process is everything!

The better you are at building a process that could be managed by someone other than yourself the more successful the entrepreneur will be. Because the smart entrepreneur nows that I can make more revenue if I focus on delivering my service and/or manufacturing my product than Ican at managing the day to day.

You must think bigger to be successful!!!

So when should a business owner hire a bookkeeper? I would say as soon as you are serious about building a business. The entrepreneur will get a structure to house the business and you might even make some contacts where you can start selling your product and services.

A successful business is an organized one!
