Squeezed a little extra juice into the week. 🍋‍🟩

Thrilled to be in Las Vegas for Intuit Connect, soaking up innovation, automation, and plenty of accountant-to-accountant inspiration.

Here’s to keeping our books clean, our strategy sharp, and our cash flow juicy.

I’m heading to and will be there through Wednesday! It’s my first time attending, and I’ve heard amazing things from past attendees.

I’m looking forward to learning, connecting, and geeking out over all things accounting—especially in the world of cannabis finance. If you’ll be there too, let’s connect! 🍋‍🟩

Today at CannaCon 2023, we attended Oklahoma Medical Ma*****na Authority’s breakout session to get up to date info on what the agency is currently working on. We make every effort to stay up to date on what’s happening in Oklahoma’s medical cannabis industry, so we may continue to offer the best accounting and advisory services to our clients.

We’re more than just “accountants,” we’re here to be your trusted advisor. Recently after reviewing some utilities bills for an indoor cultivation client, we noticed they had been assessed sales tax from OGE for their electricity use. Generally this is to be expected, except this client has an agriculture sales tax exemption and with their building being used exclusively for cultivation, we knew this wasn’t right. 🤔

Knowing what we know about sales tax in Oklahoma, we knew we could get a refund for sales tax paid that shouldn’t have been. After collecting the necessary documents, a trip was made to the Oklahoma Tax Commission today for hand delivery of our >$12,000 refund request. 😮

If you’re a license cultivator in Oklahoma and do NOT have your agricultural sales tax exemption, we can help. 🤓

If you’re not banked and need to get set up with proper cannabis banking, be certain to check out Oklahoma State Bank. They have a solid banking program for cannabis businesses with very reasonable pricing on their fee structure compared to others in our state.

Oklahoma State Bank (OSB) understands the compliance and operational requirements associated with serving the legal cannabis industry.

It’s official. Metrc goes live in Oklahoma on May 26.

Important update! OMMA, Metrc and plaintiffs reached an agreement on the seed-to-sale lawsuit. That means licensed Oklahoma medical ma*****na businesses have until May 26 to comply with the Metrc seed-to-sale tracking system. We'll be sharing details and scheduling online educational seminars soon. This is a crucial step toward cracking down on bad actors, and providing an opportunity for licensees who follow the rules to thrive.

Should this legislation pass once formally introduced, it would be a complete game changer for the cannabis industry. Overnight all cannabis businesses would be treated no differently from any other legally operating business in America and IRC 280E would no longer apply as it relates to federal business income tax.

"Our goal is to do it in April. Then we begin the nationwide push, spearheaded by New York, to get the federal law done,” Senator Schumer said.

Be aware OMMA’s licensing platform is changing and new/renewal applications must be submitted by this Friday. Otherwise you’ll have to wait an additional 11 days before you can submit licensing applications, patient and commercial.

Quick update (5 p.m. Jan. 6): The current licensing system (Complia) will be in a maintenance mode and unavailable from Jan. 10-13th. A view-only function will be available beginning Jan. 14.

--

Heads up! Our new licensing portal launches Jan. 18. We won’t be able to process applications during the transition period (Jan. 10-17).

THIS FRIDAY (Jan. 7) is the last business day to submit a patient or business license application until Jan. 18, when we will begin accepting applications in the new system. Details here: oklahoma.gov/omma/thentia
