IMPORTANT NEWS FOR RESTAURANT OWNERS USING TOAST POS
I wanted to share something that recently came across my desk because I believe every restaurant owner should be aware of what’s happening in our industry.
In October 2026, the Federal Trade Commission, along with California authorities and seven state attorneys general, filed a lawsuit against Toast, alleging hidden fees, unauthorized charges, unwanted add-ons, misleading customer support promises, and difficulties canceling services.
These are allegations, and the case will have to work its way through the legal system.
I’m not sharing this to criticize anyone who uses Toast. There are plenty of restaurant owners who are happy with their systems, and that’s perfectly fine.
But after nearly a 2 decades in the merchant services industry, one thing I’ve always believed is that business owners deserve to know exactly what they’re paying for, what they’re agreeing to, and what their options are.
My advice to every restaurant owner, regardless of which POS company you use, is simple: Review your monthly statements, understand your software subscriptions, know your contract terms, and don’t be afraid to question charges you don’t recognize.
Transparency and accountability should be the standard in our industry, not the exception.
I’m sharing this for awareness because an informed business owner is always in a better position to protect their business.
