As many of you know, I’m a newer, but proud resident of Grand Blanc Township, Michigan. Sunday was a horrific and incredibly unsettling day for the city, township, and its broader community. The people of the Grand Blanc Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endured an unbelievable tragedy Sunday morning. We pray fervently for their losses and that they might find peace and unity in the days and weeks to come.
At the same time, however, I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be a member of this community as, when incredible tragedy struck, the community mobilized. Grand Blanc’s first responders were incredible. Leigh LaForest and the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce started immediately reaching out to everyone who stood to lend a hand – restaurants, charitable organizations, anyone with a car who could help transport victims back to their homes.
Fr. Joe Krupp and Holy Family Grand Blanc sent out supportive and informative messages to school parents and parishioners, and unsurprisingly, the parish was packed with worshippers this morning, praying for peace and compassion.
More work is needed. People are still hurting and grieving. But this community is incredibly strong, and I’m honored to be a part of it.
