✨ Wednesday Tax Tip: Hobby vs. Business (and yes, the IRS cares).

If you’re selling treats, lashes, crafts, doing hair, reselling, baking, or running any kind of “side thing”… here’s the tea:

The IRS looks at whether you’re trying to make a PROFIT (business) or mostly doing it for fun/extra cash (hobby).

Here’s what separates a business from a hobby (in plain English):
✅ You run it like a business 💻records, tracking, receipts, consistency
✅ You’re putting in real time/effort to make it profitable
✅ You’ve changed your approach to improve profits (pricing, marketing, cutting costs)
✅ Losses make sense (startup phase or something outside your control)… not “loss every year forever.”
✅ You have knowledge/support (you or an advisor) to run it successfully.

Now the part people miss 👇
📌 Even if it’s a hobby, the income is still taxable you still report it.

If you’re not sure what yours is, don’t guess guessing is how folks end up stressed, owing, or getting letters.
