TAX TIP: Starting October 1st, the Department of the Treasury — including the IRS — is moving away from paper refund checks and paper payments, with electronic options becoming the standard. While limited exceptions may apply, most taxpayers should expect electronic payment methods going forward.

Many taxpayers currently make estimated payments or pay owed taxes by personal check. Going forward, the best option is to open an IRS account and link your bank account for payments.
