Let’s talk about FEES because a lot of people don’t understand how this works. 🔑
There is a preparer fee — that pays the person actually preparing your return.
Then there are bank fees — charged by the bank that processes your refund if you choose that option.
If your preparer is under a company, there may be a Service Bureau fee.
There’s also a transmitter fee — that’s for securely sending your tax return to the IRS.
Add in e-file fees for submitting your return electronically.
And yes, sometimes document fees — pulling transcripts, verifying info, extra paperwork, etc.
All of these fees are separate.
None of them are random.
And they don’t all go to the preparer.
So before comparing prices or saying “taxes shouldn’t cost that much,” be mindful of that you’re actually paying for: Quality, compliance, professional services, and protection!!
