It is with deep sadness that we ask for prayer for the Shark family, Destin community and Divens family.
Coach Divens is a loved member of the Shark family and community. He was always there to lend a helping hand, often going above and beyond. Others first, self last was just how he was. For the Destin High School Football family, Coach Divens was often the first and last to arrive to help. He was the man behind the scenes who really made everything appear to be so seamless.
Off the field, he would go and get food from Publix and take it to those in need. He seemed to have all the connections to help everyone in every circumstance and he didn't hesitate to be that connection for others. God really used him to bless so many people.
Please join us as we pray for the deep loss of a wonderful man. Not just a coach, but a mentor, friend, son, and father to some beautiful and amazing girls.
It is with profound sadness, that we inform our Destin High School family of the passing of Coach Eric Divens, a cherished member of our school family, who served as Assistant Football Coach and a dedicated staff member.
Eric Divens was more than a coach—he was a mentor, role model, and true supporter of everything Destin High stands for. Known for his deep school pride, Eric often said he "was a Shark through and through and bled blue," and he brought that passion and energy to every student, colleague, and event he touched. He has been a fundraiser for the school, sharing his passion for school and it's mission, one appointment at a time.
“Coach Divens made a lasting impact on this campus,” shared Dr. Diane Kelley, Principal of Destin High School. “Whether coaching our athletes, cheering from the sidelines, or simply offering encouragement in the hallways, his presence was felt in every corner of our school. His dedication, his laughter, and his love for our students will never be forgotten.”
"Coach Divens was my brother, a best friend and trusted member of my staff, inner circle and my family. Our players loved Coach Divens and we will dedicate the next football season in his honor. He will be sorely missed," said E.G. Green, Head Football Coach.
At tonight's basketball game at Rocky Bayou Christian School, the Destin Touchdown Club and our school's Governing Board of Directors will be handing out black ribbons for our fans to wear in Coach Divens' honor. If you'd like to volunteer or help, please email [email protected]
We extend our deepest condolences to Coach Diven’s family, friends, colleagues, and the many students whose lives he shaped. He will be remembered always as a true Shark and a beloved member of our Destin High School family.
In response to this loss, Destin High has made counseling services available for students and staff. The school community is being encouraged to lean on one another and to seek support as needed during this difficult time.
Information about memorial arrangements and opportunities to honor Mr. Divens will be shared with the community as soon as it becomes available.
