Meet our 2026 Annual Tax Symposium keynote speaker, Maggi Thorne! 👋🏃‍♀️

Maggi is a dynamic motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and elite athlete. An 8-time American Ninja Warrior competitor, she was the second mom to conquer the Warped Wall and the first to complete the Salmon Ladder. She is also a two-time NBC Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge championship competitor and the 2014 Mrs. International winner.

After managing more than $340 million in construction projects, Maggi founded JoyFlowCo, where she inspires and equips active women to pursue their goals. She also placed second in The World's Toughest Mudder, completing 75 miles and 330 obstacles in 24 hours.

A former University of Nebraska-Lincoln Track & Field Team Captain and Big 12 Honor Roll athlete, Maggi shares an inspiring message of perseverance drawn from her experiences as a single mother of three, business leader, and competitor. Her engaging style encourages audiences to never give up and to pursue their dreams despite life's challenges.

Maggi is also a community advocate, serving as a spokesperson for AIM Institute, a former global ambassador for feedONE, and creator of a Girl Scouts entrepreneurship patch earned by thousands of scouts. Her leadership and service have earned her both the Governor's Award for Inspiring Community Engagement and the American Heart Association Heart of Gold Award.

Thank you to gubernatorial candidates Rob Sand and Zach Lahn for joining the ITA Board of Directors at yesterday’s quarterly meeting and sharing their perspectives on issues important to Iowa.

We also extend our appreciation to Principal Financial Group for graciously hosting us at their beautiful downtown campus and helping make the meeting a success.

July 30 is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. It is a reminder that human trafficking happens here in Iowa, in our communities and along our highways, and that awareness alone is not enough.

The Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate's office created the Iowa Businesses Against Trafficking (IBAT) program because Iowans can be part of the solution. IBAT connects businesses across the state with the training and tools to recognize trafficking and respond to it.

For survivors seeking safety, the office also administers the Safe at Home program, which helps victims of violent crimes protect their address and maintain their privacy.

In just two years, Nate has made a tremendous impact through his leadership and dedication to advancing sound public fiscal policy for Iowa businesses.

Kicking off our first Fiscal Commentary session of 2026 in Des Moines!

For the first time, ITA is opening its annual Fiscal Commentary sessions to non-members across the state. Traditionally a members-only event, this is a unique opportunity to gain valuable industry insights, hear discussion on the major tax policy changes from this year's legislative session, and experience the value of ITA membership firsthand.

Sessions are being presented by Nate Ristow, ITA President, who is providing expert analysis and perspective on the tax and policy developments impacting Iowa businesses and taxpayers.
