All of Tennessee and Mississippi now has until June 8 2026 to file their 2025 income tax returns. The IRS just updated the filing relief.

We expected it to happen and they finally announced it. Tax returns for certain counties in Tennessee now have until May 22 to file due to the winter ice storm we had in January 2026. The counties are:
Cheatham, Chester, Clay, Davidson, Decatur, Dickson, Hardeman, Hardin, Henderson, Hickman, Lawrence, Lewis, Macon, Maury, McNairy, Perry, Robertson, Rutherford, Summer, Trousdale, Wayne, Williamson & Wilson.

The Internal Revenue Service announced Friday tax relief for individuals and businesses in Tennessee affected by Winter Storm Fern that began on Jan. 22, 2026.

Are you a Senior Citizen with Social Security benefits? We have been receiving a lot of questions about whether your Social Security is taxable and whether you even are required to file an income tax return.
The new OBBBA passed on July 4, 2025 does NOT exclude your Social Security benefits as reportable for income tax purposes. What it does do is offer you an extra deduction for each spouse over the age of 65. The regular calculations to determine if your Social Security is taxable still apply. The same calculations to determine if you are even required to file an income tax return still apply.
