September 15 is an important tax deadline!

For calendar-year businesses that filed an extension, September 15 is generally the deadline for extended Partnership (Form 1065) and S Corporation (Form 1120-S) returns.

It’s also the deadline for the third estimated tax payment of 2026 for many taxpayers.

Today is the final day of Florida’s 2026 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday.

Still have school shopping to finish? Double-check the qualifying items and price limits before heading to the register.

Business owners should also make sure eligible sales are properly recorded as exempt sales on their sales-tax returns.

Tax myth: Filing an extension gives you extra time to pay your taxes.

The truth? An extension generally gives you more time to file your return, but it does not extend the original deadline to pay what you owe.

Still working on an extended return? Do not wait until October to start gathering your documents.

Florida business owners: Do not overlook your sales and use tax filing.

Returns and payments are generally due on the first day of the month and considered late after the 20th. Electronic payments must be initiated early enough to meet the state’s deadline.

Even when no tax is due, a return may still be required for the reporting period.

• Clothing, footwear and certain bags priced at $100 or less per item
• School supplies priced at $50 or less per item
• Learning aids and puzzles priced at $30 or less
• Personal computers and certain accessories priced at $1,500 or less for personal use

Before you shop, remember that not every item qualifies and price limits apply.
