Next week is the beginning of meteorological Fall. Not only will the leaves start changing color, but businesses need to start thinking about preparing for tax season.

Are your books clean and crisp so that you only have to produce financial reports to give to your tax accountant or load that information into a tax filing software tool? Or are your books a source of frustration because they have errors and/or junk transactions that you don't know why they keep appearing and making your books inaccurate? Can you produce a clean 1099 report that will inform you about how many 1099-NECs and 1099-MISCs you need to send?

To resolve those problems, start by downloading my "Top 5 Suggestions for Improving Your Business by Improving Your Bookkeeping" interactive PDF document https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/h2885kaqcj69agzxmhwvb/Top-5-Suggestions-Interactive-Doc-ver11.pdf?rlkey=ynurpx8woxpax9jyvwv40yy0c&dl=0

And then contact me for a free consultation about how I can get your books in order so that they are a source of accurate information that can help you manage and grow your business.

Are you having trouble finding a CPA or tax preparer to do your taxes?
Are you finding that they won't take on new clients because they are already overloaded with other clients?

One way small business owners can negotiate with a seasoned tax accountant is to show them that your business's financial information is on QuickBooks Online and that your books are in order. If the tax accountant sees books that are incomplete and inaccurate, they will most likely pass on taking you on as a client.

This is where professional bookkeepers can help small business owners. My business is to help small business owners and non-profits organize their finances so that they know where there money is coming from and where it is going. Accurate and up-to-date books can give small business owners a strong selling point to convince an experienced but overbooked tax preparer to do their taxes.

Where Have all the CPAs gone?

The United States is currently experiencing a severe shortage of certified public accountants (CPAs) due to a rising trend of accountants leaving their positions at both corporations and audit firms. This trend is coupled with a decline in the number of new graduates entering the field, leading to a

Do you still need a human bookkeeper in the age of QuickBooks Online?

Ask yourself these questions:
Do YOU know what the accounting software is telling YOU about YOUR business?
Does the information in your books make sense? Will it still make sense to YOU tomorrow, at month-end, at year-end? Does it make sense to your tax accountant? To the bank when you request a loan?
How much time are you spending updating the information in your books?
How far behind are you with updating the information in your books?

An old computer programmer proverb says, "Computers do what you tell them to do, not what you want or wish them to do."

Software and artificial intelligence have made great strides over the decades, but it still needs YOU to communicate with it. Do you have the time to learn QuickBooks Online? Do you have the time to research problems with you books and how the information is stored in QuickBooks Online?

Some small business owners have struggled to the point of surrendering and canceling their QuickBooks Online subscriptions. They opted for the "Bob Cratchit" method, recording their business information manually or with MS Excel. However, the time restraints on small business owners to maintain their books didn’t disappear when they canceled their QuickBooks Online subscription.

Whether you have accounting knowledge or not, the small business owner needs to weigh the amount of time it takes them to learn their accounting software, enter the data and to research and fix any problems with it against the time they need to make money in their day-to-day operations and plan for the future of their business.

This is one of the reasons why Entrepreneur and Forbes magazines recommend outsourcing non-core business tasks to professionals, and bookkeeping is one of the top non-core business tasks that they recommend outsourcing to professionals.
