🚨 BIG NEWS: Treasury Drops Corporate Transparency Act Enforcement for U.S. Businesses 🚨

Well, well, well… the Treasury Department just hit the brakes hard on enforcing the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) for U.S. citizens and domestic companies. That’s right—no penalties, no fines, nothing. And soon, the rule will apply only to foreign companies.

For those who were sweating the Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) filing deadlines, congrats. You just got a government-issued “never mind.”

Key takeaways from this twist:
If you’re a U.S. business, you can officially stop stressing about those BOI reports. No penalties are coming your way.
Treasury is shifting the focus to foreign reporting companies instead. (Translation: If you’re an American business, you’re off the hook; if you’re overseas, good luck.)
The official reason? Supporting small businesses and cutting red tape. Because apparently, this was the regulation standing between America and economic prosperity.
Some thoughts on this sudden reversal:
For small business owners: This is huge. The CTA was basically a paperwork nightmare waiting to happen, and now? Gone.
For tax pros and accountants: Some of you just lost billable hours prepping BOI reports. But hey, fewer compliance headaches means happier clients.
For compliance nerds: This raises a bigger question—what happens to all the CTA data already collected? Is this a temporary reprieve, or is BOI reporting about to be a foreign-only problem?

I wanted to give an update on BOI reporting requirements from FINCEN. The deadline remains March 21, 2025, but enforcement isn’t happening yet. Honestly, not much has shifted. Since penalties only apply to intentional law violations, widespread penalty notices were never a realistic concern—despite the hype from fear-mongers, BOI software vendors, and those selling classes and webinars on the subject.

We still don’t know what the relaxed reporting rules will entail.

As I’ve been saying for months to my clients to get compliant and just file the report. If it turns out they’re exempt under a future version of the rule, great—they won’t need to file again.

Let's talk about the intersection of "I do" and "tax due" - because nothing says romance quite like optimizing your tax strategy!
Key Updates for 2024 Newlyweds:

- That midnight kiss on Dec 31st? It determines your entire tax year status (Plot twist: IRS cares more about your NYE plans than you thought)
- Name changes require SSA notification first - unless you enjoy your refund playing hard to get
- New shared address = new tax correspondence address (Because "lost in the mail" isn't a valid IRS excuse)
- Your W-4 needs a post-wedding makeover. Trust me, tax surprises aren't the kind of wedding gifts you want

Pro Tip: Run those numbers both ways - joint vs. separate filing. Sometimes financial independence has its perks, even in marriage.

🔥 **BREAKING: IRS Launches a Lifeline for Businesses with ERC - Here’s What You Need to Know!**

Hey Business Owners and Entrepreneurs! 🌟 The IRS just rolled out something you CAN'T ignore – a new Voluntary Disclosure Program for the Employee Retention Credit (ERC). This is HUGE.

**What’s the Big Deal?**
- It’s an opportunity to settle any issues with your ERC claims under INCREDIBLY favorable terms.

**Key Points:**
1. **Eligibility:** If you’ve claimed ERC, aren’t under criminal investigation, or aren’t being audited, you’re likely in the clear to apply.
2. **Payback Just 80%:** You only need to repay 80% of the ERC claimed. Yes, you read that right – 80%.
3. **No Wage Adjustment Hassles:** Forget redoing your wage expenses on past returns. The IRS is keeping it simple.
4. **Avoid Penalties:** Pay the 80% before finalizing your agreement, and dodge penalties.
5. **Advisor Details Required:** If a tax pro helped you with ERC claims, you’ll need to provide their info.

**Action Steps:**
- Fill out and submit Form 15434 to the IRS by March 22, 2024. Add Form SS-10 for 2020 tax periods.
- Payments can be made through EFTPS. Installment plans are an option if you need them.

**Bottom Line:**
This isn’t just a chance to settle up; it’s an opportunity to stay ahead and show you’re on top of your game. This kind of offer from the IRS is rare – don’t let it slip by!

💡 Stay informed, stay ahead, and let’s keep growing together!

Hey there! Did you know that if you miss filing your tax return or paying on time, the IRS can issue some pretty hefty penalties? You could be looking at up to 25% for failure to file and up to 25% for failure to pay, plus interest. And if your tax debt is several years old, those penalties and interest can add up to an additional 50% of the actual tax liability 😱

But don't worry, there are ways to get these penalties removed! If you haven't had a penalty or filed all of your necessary returns for the previous three years, you'll probably qualify for a First Time Penalty Abatement. And if you've filed a return with an inaccurate amount of liability and received a 20% accuracy penalty, there are several reasons why it might be waived (like if it was your tax preparer's fault or due to a death).

Just because the IRS issued a penalty doesn't mean it's correct and can't be removed. So why not speak with a professional who can analyze your account and see if you qualify for any penalty relief? It could save you some serious cash 💰

People complain about the IRS, but most of those complaints are misguided.

As long as the acts within the law, your issue is with the law and your discontent should be aimed at those who write said law.

When I properly argue and present my clients' cases to the IRS, they side with me, even if it's not in the IRS' favor.

To put it simply: the authority of the only exists insofar as the law permits it.

Hot water can burn you.
And if you're not careful with your payroll taxes, you're going to find yourself in hot water with the IRS. So take care of your business, and don't let the government take advantage of you.

Many business owners find themselves in tax trouble for this reason.
The IRS is always watching. They’re like a hawk. So when you’re looking to settle a debt with them, they’re going to take a serious look at your current activities.
I’ll tell you one thing: even if you’re behind on your taxes, be sure to have all your tax returns filed. If you want to negotiate a settlement on past amounts, you’re going to have a hard time if you’re not current with your filings.

Are you a non-filer?
Have you not yet filed your 2019 and 2020 tax returns?
Here is a gift you cannot miss out on:
If you file your 2019 and 2020 tax returns by September 30, you will avoid penalties for failure to file.
The IRS has just announced the failure to file penalty relief for Forms 1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, 1066, 990-T, 990-PF, 5471, 5472, and 3520.
In addition, for Forms 1065 and 1120-S, the relief also applies to penalties for failure to show required information.
The underlying interest will also be abated.

Middle of summer = middle of wedding season.
And that means some changes in tax filing for most people getting hitched. This will need to be addressed with the IRS to avoid any potential red flags.

A few things to consider:
1. If you'll be changing your name, do it sooner rather than later. You want the process to be completed prior to any tax filing.
2. Be sure to let your employer and the IRS know about any address changes.
3. Decide on any withholding changes. You can use the IRS's handy online calculator to decide how much you should withhold now that you're married.
