Do you take the standard deduction on your tax return or do you itemize on Schedule A? The 2023 standard deduction adjustments have been released by the IRS and are as follows:

For married couples filing jointly - $27,700 (up $1,800 from the prior year)

For single taxpayers and married individuals filing separately - $13,850 (up $900 from the prior year)

And for heads of households - $20,800 (up $1,400 from the prior year)

Less than 3 weeks to go! Hope everyone has done their taxes or has given their information to an accountant. Remember filing for an extension is not an extension for paying taxes you owe, but rather just an extension of time to file your return.

The tax return deadline for most businesses is less than 2 weeks away! Don't forget if you are a limited liability company (LLC) registered with the state of NY you still have to file an IT-204-LL by 3/15 even if you are a disregarded entity (single member and file your business on a Schedule C of your individual tax return).

She'll be coming around the mountain! The tax season deadline will be here before you know it. Are you prepared? It's been two years since we've had a normal tax deadline that was not extended due to the pandemic. Most tax forms should be out by now with a few exceptions so why wait? You can file your taxes now and even if you owe you can set the payment date out to April 18th. As always if you have questions or need a tax preparer I'd be happy to help!

Most people cringe at the sound of income taxes, but do you know when it all started?

During the Civil War in 1861 the first federal income tax was created in an effort to finance the war. While Congress passed the Internal Revenue Act in 1862 creating the Bureau of Internal Revenue placing excise taxes on items from to***co to jewelry it lacked substantial support and was repealed in 1872.

It was not until 1913, the 16th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified, granting Congress the power to tax personal income. In 1914 the Bureau of Internal Revenue released the first income tax form, called Form 1040.

While we still have Form 1040, tax forms have become complex and are constantly changing from year to year. If you need assistance with your personal/business taxes please feel free to contact me.
