Security reminder - tax season, and the months right after, are one of the most active times of year for scammers. Criminals know that taxpayers are exchanging sensitive financial information during and after the tax season and are more likely to respond to messages that appear to be from the IRS, their accountant, or other trusted sources.
The IRS publishes an annual "Dirty Dozen" list of the most common scams targeting taxpayers. We covered five in our last security reminder post. Here are 4 more scams every client should know about.
We take the security and privacy of our clients very seriously. Our office uses a secure client portal for document exchange, and we will never ask you to send sensitive personal or financial information through regular email without protection. If you ever receive a communication — whether by email, text, or phone — that claims to be from Blum & Blum and asks for information or payment that seems unusual, please call us immediately before responding.
When in doubt, reach out! We would gladly take your call than have you become a victim of a scam.
