Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice protects the freedoms we cherish, and their courage will never be forgotten.

From all of us at Tax Pros HQ, we wish you a peaceful and meaningful Memorial Day.

Today, we had the privilege of celebrating our first responder heroes at Garner Local Heroes.

At events like this, we often recognize a single moment, a single act, or a single day when someone’s service stands out as heroic. But the truth is, first responders do that kind of work every day — day in and day out.

They will tell you, humbly, “It’s just my job.” And yes, it is their job. But that answer does not fully capture the courage, compassion, sacrifice, and commitment it takes to show up for people during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

Our EMS professionals, firefighters, law enforcement officers, 911 communicators, and all first responders are heroic not just in rare moments, but in the steady, daily way they serve our community.

At Tax Pros HQ, our slogan is **“We are there with you.”** Today reminded us how deeply our first responders live that same promise. They are there with us — in emergencies, in uncertainty, in fear, and in moments when people need help the most.

Thank you to Garner Local Heroes for giving our community the opportunity to recognize these incredible men and women. And thank you to every first responder who continues to show up for Garner and beyond.

You are appreciated. You are valued. You are heroes every day.

This week, we were reminded that the people we serve are so much more than names on a return or appointments on a calendar.

We recently lost a client, and while we are deeply saddened, we are also incredibly grateful for the time we had with them. Over the years, relationships like these become more than client and accountant. We learn about families, goals, struggles, stories, and sometimes even shared interests — like a mutual appreciation for a good whiskey.

At Tax Pros HQ, we never take that trust lightly. When someone chooses us, they are inviting us into an important part of their life, and that means something to us.

To all of our clients: please know that we value you as people, neighbors, and friends. We are grateful for the conversations, the trust, and the relationships built year after year. And we are here for you — not just during tax season, but whenever you need guidance, support, or simply someone willing to listen.

We are there with you.

This week’s “don’t miss” items can make a real difference: the new 65+ deduction (if eligible) and making sure any Trump Account election is handled correctly (if you’re choosing to do it). We’ll do a quick screening, confirm what applies, and make sure the return includes what it needs—without guesswork. Message us “WEEK4” and we’ll send a short upload list tailored to your situation.

New parents and grandparents: the Trump Account savings plan is NOT automatic. An election has to be made, and the child needs a valid Social Security number. Also important timing: guidance says contributions generally can’t be made before July 4, 2026, and the government’s seed contribution applies only for eligible children when an election is made—so paperwork matters. Comment “TRUMP” and we’ll send a simple checklist of what to gather.

If you (or your spouse) are 65+ this year, don’t miss a new federal deduction that can reduce taxable income and potentially improve your refund. It’s temporary (2025–2028), and it starts phasing out at higher incomes, so it’s worth checking even if you “usually don’t qualify for much.” If you’re not sure, comment “SENIOR” and we’ll tell you exactly what to bring so we can confirm eligibility and claim it cleanly.

If you want to safely maximize your refund, we’ll run both methods—standard vs itemized—and then sanity-check the state return too (because state rules can differ). Message us “ITEMIZE” and we’ll send a simple list of what to upload: W-2s (state withholding), property tax bill, mortgage Form 1098, charitable receipts, and any state estimated tax payments.

Fast way to see if itemizing is worth it this year: add up your likely itemized deductions (SALT up to the limit, mortgage interest, charitable gifts) and compare to the 2025 standard deduction ($15,750 single / $31,500 married filing jointly / $23,625 head of household). And don’t forget the “two-return reality”: many states don’t match every federal change, so your best federal result isn’t always your best state result.

Big change for itemizers: the federal SALT cap is higher for the 2025 tax year, which means more people in higher-tax areas should at least re-check whether itemizing beats the standard deduction. This doesn’t help everyone—but if you paid meaningful state income tax and/or property tax, it’s worth a quick side-by-side comparison before you file..

Happy President’s Day

Quick “presidential” reminder: the fastest way to maximize your refund safely is to keep it official—report income correctly, match your documents, and claim the deductions/credits you actually qualify for. If you earned tips, worked overtime, bought a vehicle, or you’re re-checking itemizing this year, comment USA and we’ll tell you what documents matter most.
