Has eliminating SAT and ACT requirements made college admissions fairer?
A growing debate is emerging in higher education. More than 600 University of California professors have reportedly called for a reexamination of the University's decision to eliminate SAT and ACT testing from admissions.
Regardless of where you stand on standardized testing, this discussion raises an important question:
Are students entering college academically prepared for the challenges ahead?
Admissions policies may change over time, but the skills that help students succeed remain the same:
✔ Strong reading comprehension
✔ Clear and effective writing
✔ Solid math foundations
✔ Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
As parents and educators, perhaps the focus should be less on whether a test returns and more on whether students are developing the skills needed to thrive in college and beyond.
What are your thoughts?
