Honoring Juneteenth

Today, we recognize and celebrate Juneteenth—a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of equality.

Observed each year on June 19, Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

As we reflect on this important part of our nation's history, we honor the strength, contributions, and achievements of Black Americans throughout history and today.

May this day inspire continued learning, understanding, and unity within our communities.

Put a plan in place for potential disasters

✔ Review and update emergency preparedness plan annually
✔ Create electronic copies of documents
✔ Document valuables
✔ Understand tax relief available for disaster situations

Information on disaster assistance and emergency relief for individuals and businesses is available at IRS.gov. Taxpayers should also review Publication 547, Casualties, Disasters and Thefts.

Taxpayers who live in a federally declared disaster area can visit Around the nation on IRS.gov and click on their state to review the available disaster tax relief. Those who live in designated areas for disaster relief receive automatic filing and payment postponements for many currently due tax returns and don't need to contact the agency to get relief.

Taxpayers and practitioners who live in a federally declared disaster area with disaster-related questions can call the IRS Special Services Hotline at 866-562-5227 to speak with an IRS specialist.

Monday Motivation: One Step at a Time

Feeling overwhelmed?

Don't focus on everything you need to accomplish this week.

Focus on the next task.

Then the next.

Then the next.

Great achievements are simply a series of small accomplishments completed consistently.

Today's goal: Just get started.

In a time filled with so much negativity, I’m happy that there are people like Joabe Barbosa who shine a light on all that’s good. This brother ran EVERY street in Chicago. I was sad when it seemed like he would be forced to leave because of not getting matched during his doctoral program process at Roosevelt University but was happy when he got an extension.
I would not have missed this opportunity to thank him for all he has done as an ambassador of our city. Thank you Joab for letting us run with you today. May nothing but love, peace, happiness and success follow you wherever life may take you! 🙏🏾💕

Thoughtful Thursday 💭

Taxes aren’t just about numbers—they’re about planning for your future.

This Thoughtful Thursday, take a few minutes to ask yourself:

Am I tracking all of my deductible expenses?
Have I set aside enough for quarterly taxes?
Am I keeping accurate records for tax season?
Could a tax strategy save me money this year?

A little planning today can help prevent stress tomorrow. The smartest tax decisions are often made long before filing season arrives.

Be aware of Dirty Dozen tax scams for 2026

The annual IRS Dirty Dozen tax scams is a list of common scams that you could encounter anytime – don't fall prey.

A notable change to this year’s list is abusive undistributed long-term capital gains claims. The IRS continues to see an increase in overstated or fabricated claims tied to Form 2439, Notice to Shareholder of Undistributed Long-Term Capital Gains.

This year’s list also includes IRS impersonation by email and text, AI-enabled IRS impersonation by phone, and misleading tax advice on social media, to name just a few.

To see the full list and learn about the warning signs of these scams and how to protect yourself, visit the Dirty Dozen page on IRS.gov.
