A powerful visual on how inflation impacts purchasing power over time

In 1933, $20 could buy a 1 oz gold coin. Today, it takes over $2,000 to buy that same ounce.

This isn’t about gold — it’s about understanding the silent risk of inflation on your dollars. The real question: Is your financial plan designed to keep pace with the rising cost of living?

🌿 Spring Clean Your Finances: 3 Simple Ways to Refresh Your Plan

Spring is the season of fresh starts — and that applies to your financial life, too. Here are three smart ways to “tidy up” your finances this week:

Review Your Subscriptions
Over time, small recurring charges can add up. Take a few minutes to cancel anything you no longer use or need.

Update Beneficiaries
Life changes — marriages, births, and other major milestones. Make sure your retirement accounts and insurance policies reflect your current intentions.

Increase Your Savings Rate
Even a small bump in your monthly contributions to savings, investments, or retirement accounts can have a big long-term impact.

A little financial housekeeping now can create clarity and confidence for the rest of the year.

If you’d like help reviewing your plan, I’m here when you’re ready.

💡 Give generously. Save on taxes.
With Easter coming up, a lot of my clients are in the spirit of giving.

If you’re age 70½ or older and give regularly to charity—there’s a way to do it that might also help lower your taxes.

It’s called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), and here’s why it matters:

Most people give out of their monthly income—from pensions, Social Security, or investment withdrawals—and pay income tax on that money first.

But with a QCD, you can donate directly from your IRA, and the amount you give is not included in your taxable income.

▶️ Give $5,000 to your church from your checking account? That could cost you $6,500 or more before taxes.
▶️ Give $5,000 as a QCD from your IRA? You give the full amount, tax-free.

It also counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you’re already taking those.

If this sounds like something you—or a parent—might benefit from, I’m happy to walk through it.

What have we lived through in the past 5 years?

• A global pandemic
• Lockdowns and layoffs
• 40-year-high inflation
• War in Europe
• Recession fears
• Rising interest rates
• Bank failures
• A bear market
• Political chaos
• AI disruption

And yet… the S&P 500 is up nearly +119% over that same time.

📈 This is why we zoom out.
📉 This is why we stay the course.
🧠 This is why we don’t let headlines drive our investment decisions.

Are Small Expenses Adding Up More Than You Realize?

We often don’t think twice about everyday spending—$6 coffee, $15 takeout, etc. But let’s do the math:

☕ Morning coffee: $5.50
🥗 Lunch out: $12.99
⚡ Afternoon energy drink: $4.50
🍽️ Takeout dinner: $18.25
🥤 Smoothie: $6.50

Total for the day: $47.74
Monthly: $1,432.20
Yearly: $17,425.10

That’s enough to make a significant impact on long-term financial goals, whether it’s building savings, investing, or funding a future purchase. Small choices can add up over time.

What are some mindful spending habits you’ve found helpful? Let’s discuss!
