If you file an extension in April to file your income taxes, the deadline is October 15. This extension only exempt you from the filing late penalty. If you owe federal and/or state taxes interest and penalties will be added.

Has Congress passed the 2024 child tax credit?
So, right now, it isn't clear whether an expanded child tax credit will become law before the end of the 2024 tax filing season. (The tax package will need 60 votes to pass the Democratic-led Senate.)
