Tax returns are still being processed, even with the partial government shutdown.

The Internal Revenue Service continues to accept and process tax returns, and refunds are still being issued. Most returns are handled automatically, so filing is not on pause.

⏳ That said, anything requiring manual review (identity verification, amended returns, prior-year issues, or certain credits) may take longer than usual.

💡 The best move? File accurately, early, and with a trusted preparer.

If you have questions or concerns about your specific situation, I’m happy to walk you through it 🤍

The IRS will open for e-file on 1/26/2026 ‼️‼️‼️

The IRS does allow for some returns filed before this date to be transmitted for their “testing batches” so if you have submitted your return to be prepared, we do not wait until efile opens to transmit. We will send it off and wait for acceptance regardless!

Happy filing 🥳🥳🥳🥳

Tax Tip of the Week: Understanding Your IP PIN 🛡️💼

What is an IP PIN?
The Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) is a unique 6-digit number issued by the IRS to protect you from tax-related identity theft. It ensures that only you can file a federal tax return using your Social Security Number (SSN).

Who Needs an IP PIN?
• If you’re a victim of identity theft.
• If you’ve opted into the IP PIN program for extra security.

Key Points to Remember:
1. Retrieve Your IP PIN Early:
If you were issued an IP PIN, make sure to retrieve it before filing. You can look it up on the IRS website through your online account.
2. You Must Use It Every Year:
Your IP PIN changes annually, so don’t reuse the one from last year!
3. Keep It Secure:
Treat your IP PIN like any sensitive information. Never share it with anyone other than your trusted tax preparer.
4. What Happens Without It?
If you’re required to use an IP PIN and don’t include it, your tax return could be rejected by the IRS.

Pro Tip:

If you haven’t received your IP PIN or are new to the program, you can apply for one on the IRS website. Opting into the program is a great way to add an extra layer of security to your tax filing process.

Tax Tip of the Week 💰

Did you use sports betting platforms in 2024? 🏈🏀⚾

If you made $600 or more in gambling winnings, you need to be on the lookout for a W-2G Form!

📌 What is a W-2G?
It’s a form issued by sports betting platforms, casinos, or other gambling entities to report your winnings to the IRS. This includes winnings from:
• Sports betting
• Lotteries
• Raffles
• Online gaming platforms

📌 Why does this matter?
The IRS considers gambling winnings taxable income, and you’re required to report it on your tax return, even if you don’t receive a W-2G.

Quick Tip: Keep records of your bets, wins, and losses throughout the year—you may be able to deduct gambling losses up to the amount of your winnings!
