There are four ways to approach risk. You can ignore it or avoid it entirely. Or managing it carefully. Or transferring it through insurance.

Every one of these can work, but the key is knowing which one you're choosing and why.

Of these four approaches, which one do you instinctively reach for?

Boots Been There 🄾

This weekend called for an impromptu (I didn’t have my boots) adventure to Kaymoor Miners Trail… and wow, this one earned its place on the list.

Located in the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, Kaymoor Miners Trail is a hike through West Virginia history. The trail leads to the remains of the historic Kaymoor coal operation, where miners once worked and entire communities existed deep in the gorge. The mine operated for decades before closing in the 1960s, and today you can still see remnants of the mine entrance, processing areas, coke ovens, and pieces of the old company town.

The famous stairs? They’re no joke. After descending through switchbacks to the mine site, there are 821 wooden steps down… and yes… 821 steps back up to reach the remains below. Thousands of miners once made similar trips as part of daily life in the gorge.

Our final count: 2.47 miles and 1,642 total stairs conquered.
Legs questioned our decisions a few times… but the views, history, and adventure made every step worth it.

WV really does have a way of reminding you that the best stories start with ā€œthis was kind of last minuteā€¦ā€ šŸ„¾ā›°ļø

No two clients are the same. Nor are their portfolios.

The strategies that serve someone building wealth at 55 look very different from those preparing for retirement at 65. That's why it's critical to take a multi-layered approach that allows us to use a mix of strategies to pursue your goals.

What mix works best for you?

Boots Been There… but this week looked a little different. 🩓

I was officially out of the office and traded my hiking boots for bare feet and sandy toes. Although miles were walked, no miles tracked, no trail maps, and honestly not much footwear at all.

Instead, I soaked up some sunshine, slowed down for a bit, and enjoyed some much needed time away.

Sometimes adventure looks like mountain views… and sometimes it looks like your toes in the sand and nowhere to be.

Now back to reality… but already dreaming of the next escape šŸŒŠā˜€ļø

Boots Been There 🄾

I had my hiking buddies with me this weekend! Between birthday parties and a packed schedule, we squeezed in some trail time and headed out to the Summersville Muddlety Creek Trail for 2.3 miles out and back (we’ll tackle the full loop soon!).

My little explorer brought along binoculars, which made the whole adventure even more fun. We spotted birds, bugs, and even a baby raccoon along the way. It may not have been our longest hike, but it was one of those reminders that slowing down and seeing the trail through a kid’s eyes (and his binoculars) makes every mile worth it. šŸ’ššŸŒæ

šŸ“ŗ Financial Friday on WSAZ NewsChannel 3 Studio 3

We’re halfway through the year, so it’s the perfect time to ask: Are your investments still on track?

In this week’s segment, Sarah shared why a mid-year portfolio check matters and what to focus on:
• Review performance beyond the headlines
• Rebalance if your allocation has shifted
• Make sure your risk level still fits your goals

Market ups and downs can feel uncomfortable but they can also create opportunity if you stay focused on your long-term plan.

And don’t forget… your financial plan should evolve as your life does.

Boots Been There 🄾

It was my birthday weekend!

I was traveling to cheer on an amazing friend as she stepped on stage for her very first physique and figure competition in Kentucky. She absolutely crushed it, bringing home five medals: two 1st place finishes, two 2nd place finishes, and a 3rd place finish. What an incredible accomplishment after 17 weeks of hard work.

On the way home, another amazing friend agreed to make a birthday hiking stop with me, and I’m so glad she did.

We headed to Cove Spring Park and took the Holly Trail, a peaceful 1.6-mile hike winding through the woods and ending at a beautiful waterfall.

This hike ended a little differently than most. Instead of a post-hike snack, we celebrated with a birthday champagne toast beneath the waterfall, taking a moment to soak in the view and appreciate another trip around the sun.

Cheers to the year ahead. There are so many exciting things on the horizon, and plenty of trails, overlooks, and unforgettable views still waiting to be discovered. šŸ„‚šŸ„¾šŸ’™
