Meet Ida May Fuller, the First Lady of Social Security...
When President Roosevelt signed the new Social Security program into law in 1935 it was a godsend for millions of Americans. The program was not paid for from existing income taxes but rather with a small tax on your paycheck (Acronym F**A). Over 90 years later the program is still a critical lifeline for many Americans.
In her working career Ida contributed a total of $24.75 to the program. Ida also had the honor of receiving check # 00-000-001 from the social security administration. What we love about Ida’s situation is that she received a lot of them! We are happy to report that Ida lived to age 100!
