2026 Tax Season Update from Our Team
The IRS is officially in full swing for the 2026 filing season. Here’s what you need to know as of February 20:
⏱ Refund Timelines
Most electronically filed returns are being processed within 21 days.
If you’re claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), refunds are expected by March 2, 2026, as the IRS completes its required verification reviews.
💻 Expanded Digital Tools
The IRS has broadened its Tax Pro Account capabilities, now offering enhanced business-level digital access. This is part of a continued push toward modernization.
📬 Paper Checks Phasing Out
Beginning September 30, 2025, the IRS is phasing out paper refund checks in favor of electronic payments. Direct deposit will soon move from “recommended” to “standard practice.”
⚡ New Energy Tax Guidance
The IRS is issuing guidance tied to the proposed “One, Big, Beautiful Bill,” including updates to clean fuel and energy-related tax credits. If you’re investing in energy-efficient projects, this is worth a closer look.
🔎 Refund Tracking
The “Where’s My Refund?” tool is updated once daily. Checking more often won’t speed things up — but filing accurately will.
Important Reminders
Create an IRS Individual Online Account to monitor your tax information and strengthen identity protection.
Accuracy matters. Errors can delay processing, especially during peak filing season.
As always, we’re here to help you navigate the details, maximize available credits, and avoid unnecessary delays. If you have questions about your return or new tax provisions, reach out — we’re ready.
