Even though the filing date has shifted from 15 April to 15 July 2020, the date for the tax extension is still 15 October. Before then, you are issued with a tax extension to file your tax return. It's not a time extension to pay the taxes, which are already due in July. To get a tax extension, you must file IRS Form 4868.
