Graduation season is here, and for many families, that means thinking about what comes next…and how to pay for it. 🎓

529 plans have long been a smart way to save for education, but recent rule changes have made them more flexible than ever.

Here’s what’s changed:
✔️ Unused funds may no longer go to waste. You can now roll up to $35,000 of unused 529 assets into a Roth IRA for the beneficiary (subject to certain conditions).
✔️ It’s not just for college anymore. Funds can also be used for trade schools, certifications, and career training programs.
✔️ Families have more flexibility earlier on. Up to $20,000 per year can now be used for eligible K–12 expenses — not just tuition.

Education planning today looks different than it did even a few years ago. Whether your child’s path includes college, trade school, or something in between, it may be worth revisiting how a 529 plan could fit into your long-term strategy.
