Leaving your kids an inheritance is not the same as leaving them generational wealth.
A lot of people think it works like this:
It’s in my trust.
If I pass, it goes to my kids.
That’s part of it. But the bigger question is whether you taught them how you earned it.
The Vanderbilts built one of the largest fortunes in American history, and within a few generations, it was gone. The assets were there. The lessons to sustain them were not.
What you leave can only last as long as the habits behind it. When your kids understand how the money was earned, saved, and grown, they can sustain it and pass it on to their own children.
The goal is not only to leave assets. The goal is to leave the knowledge that keeps them working.
Start the conversation early, and share how you did it.
