๐Ÿ’พ SAVE this post to remember what you should be documenting for each business trip:

โ†’ Date of the trip
โ†’ Starting and ending location of your trip
โ†’ Total business miles driven
โ†’ The business purpose of your trip

PRO TIP: Instead of writing all of this down, use an app like to automatically track all of your mileage. ๐Ÿš—

And one last thing, driving from home to your regular office (aka commuting) doesn't count as business mileage.

FALSE! Let us clear up this super common misconception: your bonus isnโ€™t actually taxed more, it just looks that way on your paycheck. โคต๏ธ

That โ€œextra taxโ€ coming out of your bonus? Itโ€™s just withholding (aka your employer setting aside money for your taxes).

The IRS has different withholding requirements for supplemental income (aka your bonus) compared to your normal earnings.

The emphasis here is that your bonus isn't TAXED any differently from your normal wages; it's just WITHHELD differently!

When you file your taxes, everything gets reconciled. So if too much was withheld, youโ€™ll see that money come back as part of your tax refund. ๐Ÿ’ธ

If you qualify to contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA), you've unlocked a powerful tax savings tool!

The pros of an HSA?

โ†’ Contributions made through your employer are pre-tax
โ†’ Direct contributions (outside of payroll) are tax-deductible
โ†’ Growth is tax-free
โ†’ Withdrawals are tax-free (when used for qualified medical expenses)

Funds for an HSA can be used without penalty on qualified medical expenses.

What's a qualified medical expense?

Generally, the medical expenses from IRS Publication 502 count, but check with your tax accountant because some expenses are HSA-eligible even if you can't deduct them on your tax return.

Make sure to keep receipts and documentation for all of your HSA usage; the IRS can request this in an audit!

The IRS strongly encourages you to file (and pay) your taxes on time by charging some steep penalties if you fail to do so.

And it's not just the penalties you have to worry about... you're charged daily compounding interest too!

We work to minimize any penalties + interest our clients face (and in some cases, we can even get these waived!).

If you own an S corp and actively work in your business, you need to be paying yourself a reasonable salary!

We get this question a lot: "Can't I just take all my pay in distributions?"

NOPE! This is exactly what the IRS doesn't want you to do, and here's why:

Salary wages are subject to payroll taxes (and distributions are not), so the IRS wants to avoid losing out on that extra payroll tax income from S corporation owner-employees.

Your salary must be high enough to count as reasonable compensation for your role, and then you can pay any remaining amount as distributions.

Not sure what's reasonable for your job? Ask your tax accountant about a reasonable compensation report!

Let's start with the good news:

You're not even close to the only taxpayer who is behind on filing their taxes!

The bad news? ๐Ÿ‘€

Doing nothing is making your problem (and your stress levels) worse. ๐Ÿ˜“

You aren't the first client we'll have who is behind on their taxes, and you won't be our last!

We can help you catch up on unfiled tax returns, deal with IRS notices, and try to minimize any penalties and interest you're facing. โœ…

Here's our non-negotiable for minimizing the taxes you pay legally:

You need to track EVERY business expense.

We can't put deductible expenses on your tax return if we don't know about them... and the easiest way to do this is to have great record keeping!

Of all the new clients we've been taking on recently, almost all of them have this in common:

โ†’ They're e-commerce sellers who want to increase their profits

โ†’ They might not have filed their 2024 taxes yet because they're behind on their bookkeeping

โ†’ They crave being able to make data-driven decisions as the CEO of their business

โ†’ They either don't know how to, don't have time to, or simply don't want to do their own bookkeeping!

๐Ÿ”— If this sounds like you, click the link in our bio and we'll get you onboarded for bookkeeping services this month!

We know. It's waaay too easy to do, but you can't leave a mistake like that on your books because it's not a legitimate business expense! โŒ

"Oops" isn't a valid excuse when you get audited; you need to address these accidents before they make it to your tax return.

Worried that you might have more than a few personal expenses on your business's books? You need to book our clean-up service! ๐Ÿ“š
