New 1099-NEC rules for 2026:

The threshold for providing 1099-NECs is increasing from $600 to $2,000.

For the 2025 tax year, you'll still need to provide 1099s to qualifying individuals to whom you paid $600 or more. The deadline for filing 1099s is Jan 31.

Collecting a W9 before issuing payment eases 1099 filing frustration.

Tomorrow, June 9, the Canton Ohio Nerwork Alliance (C**A) meets at the 20/20 taphouse (Holiday Inn BV) from 5:30pm-730pm. Attendance is free and requires no registration. It's a great way to get your feet wet if your business is new to the area. Look for their group on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Tuesday, June 10, is Business After Hours at Vegabond Cafe in downtown Canton. This event is through the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce , and registration is recommended. Free for members, but there is a small fee for non-members.
