I need some honest feedback.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about whether it still makes sense for Forbes & Associates to maintain a physical office.

Many of you know bits and pieces of what’s been going on in our lives, but the reality is that things look a lot different than they did way back when. We unexpectedly became guardians of two little ones, have ongoing trips to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, more court hearings than I care to count, and now we’re dealing with the aftermath of an accident.

On the business side, expenses continue to climb. Rent, utilities, internet, phone, lawn care, software… it all adds up quickly. Several of the software platforms we rely on have already increased their pricing, and others have announced additional increases. As a business owner and accountant, I have to look at whether those expenses still make sense.

The thing is, most of my clients already communicate through the portal, email, text, phone, or Zoom. It’s actually pretty rare for someone to come sit across my desk these days.

So I’m curious…

If Forbes & Associates transitioned to a fully virtual firm, would that matter to you?

❤️ No difference at all

👍 I’d be fine with it, but would like an occasional in-person option

😮 I’d prefer a physical office

I’m not making any announcements today. I’m simply trying to gather honest feedback and make the best decision for my family, my clients, and the future of the business.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

📢 Temporary Office Update 📢

My son was involved in a serious automobile accident, so life has thrown us a bit of a curveball.

For the time being, I’ll be working from home while we get everything sorted out. I am still working, still answering emails, still handling client needs, and still surviving mostly on caffeine and stubbornness.

If responses take a little longer than usual, I appreciate your patience and understanding while my family navigates this.

Thank you all for your support.

And please don’t hate me. I’m doing the best I can over here.

Can we have a real small business conversation for a minute?

Not every business owner is bringing in millions of dollars a year. Most of the people we work with are out here doing $50,000, $100,000, or $200,000 a year while simultaneously serving as the owner, salesperson, customer service department, bookkeeper, manager, HR director, IT support, and occasionally the janitor.

So trust me, I get why bookkeeping ends up at the bottom of the pile.

When you’re trying to keep customers happy, make payroll, answer phone calls, return emails, put out fires, and somehow still have a personal life, reconciling bank accounts isn’t exactly what you’re excited to do at 10:00 PM.

But here’s what I’ve learned after more than 20 years in accounting: the businesses that know their numbers make better decisions. Period.

The problem is that most small business owners aren’t avoiding their books because they’re lazy. They’re avoiding them because they’re overwhelmed, busy, or simply don’t know where to start.

So let’s be honest…

What’s the biggest challenge you face when it comes to your bookkeeping, taxes, payroll, or understanding your business finances?

No sales pitch. No judgment. Just curious what keeps small business owners up at night.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding over the last week or so while we’ve been in and out of the office handling several matters behind the scenes.

As a small business, there are times when life requires us to shift priorities for a moment, but we’re grateful for clients who continue to trust us through it all.

We will resume normal business operations and response times next week and look forward to getting back to serving our clients at full speed. Thank you again for your continued support of Forbes & Associates, LLC.

Today, we pause to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Each fold of the American flag carries meaning, but the final fold, the one placed into the hands of a grieving family, speaks the loudest. It represents a debt that can never truly be repaid.

On this Memorial Day, we honor the fallen, remember their sacrifice, and hold close the families who carry that loss every single day.

We will never forget.

Running a business in 2026 feels like:

owner
accountant
therapist
collections department
IT support
compliance officer
emotional support hotline
and somehow still expected to answer emails in 4.2 seconds.

But anyway… friendly reminder:

If your bookkeeping is months behind, your receipts are living in a random grocery sack, and your “system” is just hoping for the best…

now would be a GREAT time to fix it before year-end panic season starts.

Sincerely,
someone who has seen entirely too much this year already.

Last week, our office experienced an unexpected disruption in availability due to a personal emergency that required my immediate attention. I had to step away to handle an urgent guardianship matter.

I understand that any delay in communication or services can be frustrating, and I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please know that this situation was both sudden and necessary, and my priority in that moment was ensuring everything was handled appropriately and responsibly.

We are now back in the office and working diligently to catch up on all messages, filings, and client needs. Your patience, understanding, and continued trust mean more than I can put into words.

If you are still waiting on a response or need immediate assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out again, we are here and ready to help.

Thank you for your grace and support.
