Did you know that you may need to make estimated tax payments if youโre self-employed, have income from interest, dividends, alimony, or capital gains, or if your tax withholding isnโt enough? Estimated taxes arenโt just for income taxโthey also cover self-employment and alternative minimum tax.
๐ ๐๐ก๐จ ๐๐๐๐๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐๐ฒ?
Individuals (like sole proprietors, partners, and S corporation shareholders) who expect to owe $1,000 or more when filing.
Corporations that expect to owe $500 or more.
If your tax liability was more than zero last year, you may also need to pay.
โ ๐๐ฏ๐จ๐ข๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฌ:
Make sure to pay enough by the due date of each of the four payment periods throughout the year.
If you underpay, you might face penaltiesโeven if youโre owed a refund!
Special rules apply to farmers, fishermen, and high-income taxpayers.

You can make your estimated payments online, by phone, or via the IRS2Go app. Business owners can also use the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS).
