🚨 IRS Update: Paper Checks Being Phased Out! 🚨

Starting September 30th, the IRS will no longer issue paper checks for refunds. All disbursements will be made via electronic fund transfer (EFT) only.

Why the change?
In 2024 alone, taxpayers footed the bill for $657 million in paper check processing costs.

Not so Fun Fact:
Paper checks are 16x more likely to be returned or lost—leading to costly re-issues and more delays.

This is part of a larger effort to cut costs and streamline efficiency.
Make sure your bank info is up to date with the IRS to avoid refund delays!

Expanded Educator Expense Deduction – OB3 Act

Starting with your 2026 tax return, the OB3 Act expands the types of educator expenses that can be deducted and makes them easier to claim.

What’s Changing?
• Educator expenses will now be fully deductible as a miscellaneous itemized deduction (under Section 67), without some of the old restrictions.

Who Qualifies?

Educators include:
• Teachers
• Instructors
• Counselors
• Interscholastic sports administrators and coaches (new!)

You must work at least 900 hours during the school year in a school that provides elementary or secondary education.

What Expenses Qualify?

The law expands what counts as “educator expenses.” You can now deduct:
• Supplies, including previously excluded nonathletic equipment for health or physical education
• Instructional materials used outside of the classroom, such as for sports, labs, or extracurriculars

And there’s no dollar limit anymore the old $300 cap (or $600 MFJ) does not apply here.

Effective Date

These expanded deductions apply to tax years beginning after December 31, 2025. So Starting in January TRACK ALL YOUR EXPENSES!!

Tax Fact #1

This one comes from the recent Big Beautiful Bill update:

Section 70424 – OB3 Act reinstates the deduction for cash contributions even if you don’t itemize, and increases the limit to $1,000 for single filers and $2,000 for married couples.

👉 What this means:
If you typically claim the standard deduction, you can now increase your deduction by up to $1,000–$2,000 just by making qualifying charitable donations!

So make sure you’re getting donation receipts when you give to your favorite organizations—like churches, Goodwill, Salvation Army, Angels of Hope, or even many animal shelters.

It’s a simple way to help others and reduce your taxable income.

This is effective starting Tax in 2026 so it won’t affect your taxes at the end of this year but will for the following year!

Hey 👋 Just a friendly reminder:

Don’t believe everything you see on social media—especially when it comes to tax advice. Since the Big Beautiful Bill passed, there’s been a big spike in misinformation floating around. Even the headlines about the bill’s policy changes can be a bit misleading, and there’s almost always a but… hiding in the details.

Before you make decisions based on a post or a meme, check with a trusted tax professional who can help you sort fact from fiction and understand how the changes really affect you.

Stay informed and stay safe out there!
